Budapest
What is Budapest like? - you ask. In a word or two: peerless. Beautiful. Exciting. Surprising. To tell you more: a historical city which is neither sleepy nor listless; the whole of Budapest is imbued with culture, tradition and vital energy.
The pearls of the World Heritage can be seen on the banks of the river. The castle of Buda, once a regal seat, rises on the hill above, enclosing the city from the middle ages, which is old, pleasant and calming like any small town with teeming atmosphere. The Castle is the pride of all Hungarians, a symbol of our history, and a condition of our identity. Pest spreads on the plains below: a city with swing and freedom, with public offices, ornamented buildings and worldly houses of entertainment. A symbol of the city stands on the riverside: the Parliament looks as if admiring the array of history spread across the other side.
The panorama to be seen from the riverbank was mostly built around the turn of the century. In an age when Budapest was one of the most attractive of cities in Europe, developing dynamically. The togetherness of past and present, strength and charm, and the signs of change visible everywhere give Budapest its inimitable and overwhelming character, which everyone of its guests will love and remember.
