Central Danubian
The Central Danube Region crowns the ˝Queen of the Danube˝, Budapest, with beautiful natural scenery, historical and artistic treasures and thriving folklore.
The Danube Bend is the most beautiful of ornaments adorning the crown, including Esztergom, the cradle of the Hungarian state and Hungarian Christendom. The plain extending to the south of Budapest, the borderland of the Hungarian Plain, is not less attractive, of the Hungarian Plain, is not less attractive, offering the magic of untouched nature. The Gödöllő Hills beckon in the east, and the hilly ˝Palóc Country˝ is situated in the north.
The north-west reveals the Börzsöny Mountains and the west bank of the Danube; the western areas accommodate the isolated historic settlements of the Buda Mountains. Many different peoples have found a home in this colorful region. The Hungarians, in the spirit of their first king, St.Stephen, welcomed Swabian, Bavarian, Slovakian and Serb settlers who have conserved their culture for centuries.
