Lake Balaton
Even from a distance it is not easy to explain the magic of Lake Balaton. This gentle lake in the centre of Europe has no palmfringed shores, there is no backdrop of soaring mountain heights, nor is it associated with prehistoric legends. Despite this, those who come for the first time are surprised to find that in the microcosm of Lake Balaton every day brings its own minor miracle.
Splashing in the silky water or taking a pleasure flight in brilliant sunshine among the peaks of extinct volcanoes, romantic suppers with Gypsy music, sailing in the moonlight, concerts, balls, excursions...and countless other things to discover and enjoy.
Thos who come for the second time, come back for the magic of variety. Because this small world, where it takes only a day to make a car trip right around the lake, has everything for the perfece holiday: rest, sport, unspoiled nature, good food, fullbodied wines, foot-tapping music... everything the tourist sets out to find, to escape from the monotony of everyday life. It has perhapsbeen undeservedly forgotten that in the early yearsof the century tourism companies still advertised Lake Balaton as a health spa. Not so much for the treatment of organic illnesses-although there is no lack of such medicinal baths in vicinity- but for physical and mental recovery for people weary of civilization. One thing is certain: people return from Lake Balaton cheerful, rested and full of energy.
