Northern Great Plain
This huge territory which embraces three counties (Jásznagykun-Szolnok, Hajdú-Bihar, Szabolcs-Szatmár -Bereg), sretces fout from the border of Pest county and its eastertn boarder adjoins that of Ukraine. This diversified scenery is rich in romantic culture. Its territory covers most of the Hungarian Great Plain. For us,- Hungarians- this plain with its scattered sand dunes, represents an area that inspiredmany Hungarian poets. Next to the dinamically devloping cities one can findthe secluded world od detached farms with their white washed houses glittering through the leaves of the locus-trees. The ,,Puszta˝ marvelled by visitors in Hortobágy is the land of horses gallopping free and of grazing herds. It is also the scene of spectacularshows of the ,,csikós˝(horseman).This is the dwelling place of the descendants of the Jazygians, Kumans and Haiduks who settled here centuries ago. The anxciosly guard the folk-art and traditions of their families just as welll, as in museums. The area is also called the ,,Mecca˝ of those seeking recuperation from the famous medicinal waters of the region, like the thermalbaths of Hajdúszoboszló. Besides the remains and relics of the Kuruts times and famous orchards, the Tisza also attracts the lovers of water-sports, and bikers, since a 235 kilometre long reach of the river flows through Szabolcs. Szatmár-Bereg county. The kind open-hearted, hospitable people of these regions are important part of this great attraction.
