Description
The area
The suburb of Homokbánya (meaning Sand Mine) was a former Russian campus,
offering accommodation to officers and soldiers. It was a self-contained village, having its own
medical, sports, technical and cultural facilities. Now it is being rejuvenated, and award-winning architects like
Gábor Farkas are restoring and reconstructing the various buildings. Two of these have already been converted into student
Hostels for GAMF. The first was completed in 2000, and the second in 2002. Although at the present moment
the surroundings are not typical suburban, nevertheless the accommodation itself is one of the highest
standards found in its category. Also within 10 minutes walk there is a large shopping complex,
Pólus Róna where there are shops, a supermarket, cinemas and restaurants.
The accommodation
The accommodation comprises of a mixture of double, triple and doubles rooms sharing en suite facilities,
all the rooms have fridges and TV's can be hired. There is access to communal kitchens, an outside barbecue site,
washing machines and dryers, Internet access, sports grounds and an enclosed car park.
The reception is open 24 hours a day.

The hostel is located about 8 Km from the city centre.

By Bus: |
There is a local bus No. 1 Kunság Volán , which runs every 1 hour and 10 to 20 mins during peak times from the bus and railway stations through the centre of the city and on to Homokbánya. (There is a bus stop outside the hostel.) Bus tickets can be bought at the station, newsagent's, on the bus and in the hostel. |

By Car: |
here is access to Highway 52 which goes straight into the centre of the city, and there is access to the Motorway M5 at exit 'Kecskemét Nyugat' (3 mins). |
